Creole Chicken and Cuban Doctors

Stepping out of the airplane we were hit with a wall of hot comfortable air and low humidity, the intense sunlight makes the colors bright. We were greeted by our friends, Ti’J and George and made our way to the Park Hotel in downtown Port-au-Prince. It is a French colonial stone structure with many cement additions. The Park Hotel is popular with middle class Haitians and Cuban doctors.

We wandered into the park to arrange dinner from the street vendors. Dinner was chicken plantain and spicy hot coleslaw, Prestige beers. Haitians are conservative and the park has a feel of a Victorian place with couples dressed-up walking in the park together. There are many street children and merchants. Despite a mild warning, Kevin gave some food to a kid starting a small confusion. Construction workers were building grandstands for Carnaval. It was a peaceful and beautiful fist few hours in Haiti.
